Q: Which modalities do you offer? A: Veronica DeLeon is certified in neuromuscular, Thai, Chinese deep tissue, Tui Na massage styles and Hawk grips scraping techniques. She has also extensively studied the myoskeletal postural alignment techniques of Erik Dalton and is a certified Pain and Posture Assessment specialist. Based off of client needs, and postural assessment more than one modality may be used with consent.
Q: What’s the difference between massage and manual therapy/bodywork? A: Massage is normally geared specifically towards relaxation. Manual therapy is targeted toward regaining motor function, mobility, and reeducating inhibited patterns so you can function optimally over a longer period of time. At Bare each manual therapy session is different and custom designed for you. Veronica will create a unique and specific treatment plan for you after assessing your personal needs and wants, reviewing any chronic pain, acute injuries, medications, and contraindications. You will be educated on your options as far as potential treatment modalities that are available as well as appropriate for you as an individual. Each massage treatment will be different from the last as your needs change and overall condition improves.
Q: Will I have to fill out paperwork? A: Yes. A consultation and consent form is required to receive manual therapy at Bare.
Q: Do you take insurance? A: No. We are a private pay facility. I do not accept insurance. If you plan on going through insurance it is your responsibility to pay FULL PRICE up front in the case of a superbill.
Q: What should I expect to happen during my first session? A: During your first session we will go over consent and paperwork briefly. A brief orthopedic assessment of posture and specific joints will be done. Your therapist will give you a brief overview of the procedure, including how much to disrobe, positioning, draping, etc. This is a good time to ask any questions and attend to any concerns you may have.
Q: Do you offer sensual or erotic massage? A: Absolutely not. Not only do we not offer sexual services, it is unlawful to do so. Any and all requests for sexual services are unlawful and will not be tolerated. In the event that any advances are made toward your therapist, the card on file will be charged IN FULL. Your session will end immediately and you will be escorted out of the suite.
Q: Must I disrobe completely before my session? A: This is dependent on the session. We recommend loose fitting clothing such as shorts, t-shirt. Undergarments are required. We can get to everything we need to with those on.
Q: How long does a session last? A: The spot treatment is 60 minutes long. During this session we focus on specific areas of the body that may be causing discomfort. This IS NOT a full body session. The 90 minute is a more inclusive session but may also be a spot treatment depending on the size of the person. For bodybuilders and larger athletes this is also a spot treatment that will not cover all of the body. The 120 minute extended session is a full body for most people. We do include a 10 minute intake to address any concerns prior to session.
Q: Will manual therapy be painful or uncomfortable to receive? A: Due to the nature of manual therapy and the goal of improving motor function and mobility, your session may include periods of discomfort. Your therapist will walk you through uncomfortable moments, and explain what they are doing along the way.
Q: Will my skin break out from the lotion or oil used during my session? A: We currently use organic coconut oil for all sessions. We do keep an emollient on hand in the case of allergies. If you have a preferred oil or lotion you would like, feel free to bring it for your therapist to use.
Q: I have been diagnosed with ______, is manual therapy inappropriate? A: Please be sure to fill out your consent form prior to session. In the event that manual therapy may negatively impact you, your therapist will contact you for more information and/or cancel your session.
Q: How often should I be receiving bodywork? A: This differs for everyone. Manual therapy is targeted toward normalizing irregular patterns of movement and re-educating for longer term effects. Think of bodywork as a tune-up. The time in between varies for everyone but should be done on a regular basis to keep you functioning optimally. If you are athlete or body builder training heavily I recommend at least 2 times a month. If you have been previously injured, frequency will be determined after your first session to assess quality of movement after treatment. Depending on your lifestyle, hobbies, and wants, your therapist will recommend how frequently you should receive treatments according to your needs.
Q: Is there anything I should do after my massage treatment? A: Hydrate! We are moving alot of blood and lymph during the session. With access to new muscle fiber recruitment and range, I highly recommend any kind of muscle re-education. Before you leave your therapist may walk you through postural alignment techniques or exercises you can do independently to improve carryover.
Q: Will I be sore after a treatment? A: This is different for everyone. During the session we may do some muscle reeducation to muscle fibers clients may not have access to before due to structural, muscular, or fascial limitations. In doing so fatigue may or may not be present.
Q: Should I tip my manual therapist? A: Gratuities are not required, although greatly appreciated by the therapist.
Q: What forms of payment do you accept. A: Effective 03/01/23 only cash and card will be accepted.
Q: Do you offer gift certificates? A: Gift certificates are available through the booking domain.
Q: What are your late and cancellation policies? A: If you are late to your session- you will be treated for the remaining time and still be responsible for the price of the time slot booked. 24 hour notice is required for any and all cancellations or reschedules.
